Sri Lanka were bowled out for 284 on the third day of the first Test against India in Galle, conceding a 178-run first-innings lead to the visitors.
India resumed their first innings on 460/9 and added just two more runs before being bowled out for 462.
Sri Lanka’s innings got off to a disastrous start, with Nishan Madushka dismissed without scoring. Dinesh Chandimal made just 5, while Sri Lanka lost their first five wickets for fewer than 90 runs.
However, Niroshan Dickwella and Sonal Dinusha launched a remarkable recovery, putting together a 146-run partnership for the sixth wicket.
Dickwella brought up his 23rd Test half-century and scored 80, while Dinusha produced a memorable performance by registering his maiden Test century, featuring four fours and two sixes.
India eventually wrapped up the Sri Lankan innings for 284, with Manav Suthar claiming four wickets and Ravindra Jadeja taking three.
Sri Lanka now trail India by 178 runs heading into India’s second innings.
