The second and final Test between Sri Lanka and the West Indies ended in a draw on Monday, allowing the hosts to secure the two-match series 1-0.
Sri Lanka declared their first innings on 549/9, led by a magnificent 188 from Lahiru Udara, who narrowly missed out on a double century after registering his maiden Test hundred. Sonal Dinusha impressed with 92, while Kamindu Mendis scored 84 and Kusal Mendis added 69.
For the West Indies, Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph claimed two wickets each, while Alzarri Joseph, Anderson Phillip, Justin Greaves, Roston Chase, and Kevlon Hodge picked up one wicket apiece.
The hosts replied with 499 in their first innings. Justin Greaves starred with 180, Shai Hope struck 112, and John Campbell contributed 72.
Sri Lanka’s bowling was led by Asitha Fernando, who claimed 5 wickets, while Prabath Jayasuriya picked up 3. Milan Rathnayake and Sonal Dinusha shared the remaining two wickets.
Holding a 50-run first-innings lead, Sri Lanka declared their second innings on 251/9, setting the West Indies a target of 302.
Dinesh Chandimal top-scored with 71, while Kamindu Mendis made 44 and captain Dhananjaya de Silva added 34.
The West Indies began their chase after lunch on the final day and reached 109 without loss before the match ended in a draw. Openers John Campbell and Brandon King both remained unbeaten on 51.
Justin Greaves was named Player of the Series for his outstanding all-round performances with both bat and ball.
The series, part of the ICC World Test Championship, was won by the West Indies 1-0.
The defeat saw Sri Lanka slip three places in the World Test Championship standings, dropping from third to sixth. After four matches in the current WTC cycle, Sri Lanka have one win, one defeat, and two draws.
Sri Lanka’s next assignment in the World Test Championship will be a Test series against India.
